Check your irrigation system when you 'spring forward'

News Release

The "Southwest Florida Water Management District(Southwest Florida Water Management District)":http://watermatters.org is reminding residents to check the timers on their irrigation system controllers this weekend, which is the beginning of Daylight Savings Time.

Saturday night is when we will turn our clocks ahead one hour. The time change is also a good time to make sure your irrigation system timer is set correctly to ensure that your system operates consistently with current water restrictions.

Unless your city or county already has stricter hours in effect, residents may only water before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. Properties more than two acres in size may only water before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. Under the current "Modified Phase II restrictions(District Water Restrictions)":http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/conservation/restrictions/swfwmd.php, lawn and landscape watering remains limited to a one-day-per-week schedule. Please "check with your local government or utility(Local government water restriction contact information)":http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/conservation/restrictions/index.php for your watering day.

In addition to following restrictions, residents are also urged to continue conserving water in other ways "indoors(Saving water indoors)":http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/conservation/indoors/ and "outdoors(Saving water outdoors)":http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/conservation/outdoors/ at their homes and businesses. Residents should consider turning off their irrigation systems if it rains before their next watering day. With outdoor irrigation accounting for as much as 50 percent of residential water usage, turning off your irrigation system can result in a significant water savings.
