Ceremony to feature American flag flown in Afghanistan

A flag flown over Camp Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom will be featured during a special flag raising ceremony Oct 17, 9 a.m. at the Southwest Florida Water Management District's Tampa Service Office.

Sgt. Eric Wolden, a member of the 53rd Infantry Brigade, was stationed at Camp Phoenix where he flew the flag on behalf of the District for the support it provided to the troops and for the moral support his wife Catherine received from District staff. Catherine Wolden is an environmental scientist in the District’s Tampa Service Office.

The District's employee committee organizes the sending of care packages to service men and women throughout the year.

Eric and Catherine Wolden will attend the flag raising ceremony, which will be conducted by an honor guard from the Florida National Guard.

The flag and a certificate from Brigadier General John Perryman will be displayed at the Tampa Service Office after the ceremony.

The office is located in Tampa at 7601 U.S. Hwy. 301.
