A DeSoto County farm is the place to be to learn about water conservation and other environmentally friendly practices this April. Members of the public are invited to tour Natures Way Aquatic Farm April 27-28 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and April 29 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Natures Way Aquatic Farm, which is located at 4899 N.W. Highway 72 in Arcadia, is an 11.5-acre environmentally friendly farm that raises edible and ornamental fish, water garden plants, wetlands restoration plants and terrestrial landscaping plants.
The tours, which were partially funded by a $1,200 Community Education Grant from the Southwest Florida Water Management District, will show visitors how the farm operates. The tour will also focus on how the hydrologic cycle, wetlands, watersheds and water conservation are inter-related to the farm’s operations. The walking tours include activity worksheets, multi-media presentations and lectures.
The goal of the tour is to encourage visitors to be more conscientious about water usage and participate in the stewardship of Floridas water resources.

This is the 10th year Community Education Grants have been available. The grants, which are up to $5,000 each, help fund projects that provide communities the opportunity to learn about water resources.
The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s 2008 Community Education Grant Program will begin its application process in June of this year if funding is approved by the Basin Boards.
