Celebrate Earth Day with "Water, Wings and Wild Things"

News Release

Polk County residents are invited to celebrate Earth Day with “Water, Wings and Wild Things,” a family event being held Saturday at IMC Park, next to the Bartow Civic Center.

The celebration, which is from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., will feature environmental presentations, exhibits and educational displays. The displays will highlight Polk County’s environmental resources, plants, animals and water conservation.

Participants who answer water conservation questions will receive a water conservation-related item that includes low-flow faucet aerators, water-saving devices and rain gauges. Polk County Utilities received a $4,537 Community Education Grant from the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Peace River Basin Board for the items to be handed out at this event and the Public Works Week event at Eagle Ridge Mall in May.

“Water, Wings and Wild Things” is a collaborative event among several Polk County Division offices including Polk County Utilities, Natural Resources, Leisure Services, Central Florida Visitors and Convention Bureau, Tourism and Sports Marketing, Solid Waste, and Transit Services. The Earth Day celebration has also received support from the cities of Lakeland and Winter Haven, Keep Polk County Beautiful, Keep Winter Haven Clean and Beautiful, Keep Lakeland Clean and Beautiful, Lakes Education/Action Drive and the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program.
