Prescribed Burn Notification
Southern Region - Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, Sarasota Counties
Conditions permitting, staff from the Southwest Florida Water Management District will be conducting a prescribed fire at Edward Chance Reserve – Coker Prairie Tract today, Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The burn unit (CP2025SP1) is located in the central sector of the property (S074– 5.2) in section 09, T35, R21. Starting after 11 a.m, approx 127 acres will be burned. The unit is located approx. 1.2 miles southwest of SR 64. The authorization number is 2025033641.

Prescribed burns play a vital role in protecting conservation lands from uncontrolled wildfires while promoting the health of Florida’s ecosystems. The District regularly conducts these controlled burns to maintain natural areas, support ecological balance and manage invasive vegetation for the benefit of native plants and wildlife.
