Information Technology Bureau Chief

As bureau chief of Information Technology, Tom Hughes is responsible for leading and managing the District’s Information Technology Bureau. The bureau works closely with internal and external customers to provide a comprehensive set of information technology services that support the District’s mission to protect water resources, minimize flood risks, and ensure the public’s water needs are met. These activities include the management of the hardware, software and data that support the District’s ePermitting Application, Scientific Data Management, Geographic Information Systems, Human Resources and Financial systems. The bureau also is responsible for supporting all personal computer, telecommunications and videoconferencing equipment as well as providing technology resources and training to staff.

Prior to joining the District, Hughes served in the private sector as a technology manager for more than 20 years. This included being self-employed as a technology consultant, serving as a technology instructor at an area college, and as the executive vice president of technology solutions for an Omaha-based technology firm.

Hughes earned undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Business Administration from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska, and in Human Resources Management from Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska. In addition, Tom has earned the certified government chief information officer certification from the Florida Institute of Government at Florida State University and is pursuing a master’s degree in executive leadership from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
