Traveling Lab Focuses on Water Education

Water resources education is hitting the road.

The Crystal Springs Foundation recently unveiled WaterVentures, Florida’s Learning Lab. The traveling lab is a science center housed in a customized 53-foot semi-trailer that will tour elementary schools throughout the state.

The vehicle features hands-on activities about Florida’s water and how to protect it. The exhibits touch on topics like aquifers and the natural filtration of spring water.

The traveling lab is funded by Nestlé Waters North America and the Crystal Springs Foundation. District Governing Board member Michael Babb was on hand for the unveiling of the new education center.

Babb said the mobile center will provide an opportunity to educate more students across the District and the state about water resources.

“We know people’s actions can have a profound effect on our water resources,” Babb said. “When people are educated about water resources, they are more likely to make informed decisions that protect and preserve those resources.”

Babb serves on the board of the Crystal Springs Foundation. The District is partnering with the foundation to provide water education training for teachers. The training will focus on awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources.
