The main challenge facing Banana Lake is the historic degradation of its water quality and associated ecosystems.
Strategies
Through cooperation with other government agencies, these challenges are met by:
- Reducing levels of nutrients and other contaminants in urban stormwater entering the lake
- Preserving, enhancing and recreating upland and aquatic habitats
Success indicators
Successful project implementation is indicated by:
- A diverse fish and aquatic plant community and
- Maintenance of designated use classifications for the lake
Future goals are then developed through an adaptive management process, always striving to help restore Florida’s natural ecosystems.
