“Permits issued by the District are contingent upon the continued ownership or other legal control of the property and water withdrawal facilities described on the Water Use Permit. All transferees of a permit are required to transfer the Permit to themselves within 45 days of acquiring ownership or legal control of any permitted water withdrawal facilities or the land on which the facilities are located.”
— District Rules

Why is it important?

  • Permits are only valid for whom the permit was issued, and for the use requested on the application (even if the uses do not change)
  • In order to responsibly manage water resources, the District is required to track ownership of water withdrawals
  • Permits can be easily transferred, but it requires input from the new owner

Transferring a permit is free!
It’s easy to do!
