What:

Greencastle of Bayonet Point, a Port Richey apartment complex, recently became the first in Pasco County to be certified under the Florida Water Star℠ Community standard.

The tour will feature the changes that helped cut the community’s monthly water bill in half, which saved them nearly $1,000 a month. Those include: a redesigned landscape with micro-irrigation and drought-tolerant plants, a Smart controller rain sensor and dual-flush toilets in every apartment.

Florida Water Star℠ is a voluntary certification program for builders, developers and homeowners. It encourages water efficiency in appliances, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and landscapes.

The tour will also feature other energy efficient changes like the addition of roof-top solar panels and motion sensor hallway lights as part of the federal Green Retrofit program.
