Each year, public supply service providers must estimate the populations within their service area. These pages are tools used primarily by water utility employees to meet this end.

According to the District’s Water Use Permit Information Manual, “public water supply applicants and their wholesale customers that operate ‘community water systems’ as that term is defined by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in Rule 62-550.200, F.A.C., shall be considered public water supply ‘utilities’” (p. B2-2). The Florida Department of Environmental Protection in Rule 62-550.200, F.A.C. defines a community water system as “a system for the provision to the public of water for human consumption through pipes or other constructed conveyances, if such system has at least fifteen service connections or regularly serves an average of at least twenty-five individuals daily at least 60 days out of the year.” Utilities may use these tools to generate population-served estimates or review population projections for their service areas.
