Committee Approves Evaluation Process

The District will move forward with an evaluation of recreation on District lands. The District’s Recreation Ad Hoc Committee, made up of four Governing Board members, approved Thursday moving forward with the evaluation process to determine if current recreational opportunities on District lands are consistent with regional and state trends.

Governing Board Elects Officers

Carlos Beruff is the new chair of the Governing Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District. He was elected today by his peers on the Governing Board. The Governing Board also elected its other officer positions which are: Michael Babb, vice chair; and Randy Maggard, secretary. Jeff Adams was re-elected treasurer.

District Recognizes Water Reuse Week

The District is observing Water Reuse Week as it’s essential to ensuring safe, clean and sustainable water resources. Gov. Rick Scott proclaimed Florida Water Reuse Week May 19-25 to highlight the importance of it to the sustainability of Florida’s water supply and ecosystem. The state began celebrating the week in 2007 after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Reuse Program as a national leader.

Experts Discuss Water Quality at Workshop

Whether you were a scientist, diver or photographer, water quality was the hot topic at the recent Your Water, Your World workshop held in Brooksville. The event, organized by the Hernando County Groundwater Guardian Committee, brought together community leaders such as District Governing Board members Tommy Bronson and George Mann to discuss issues affecting area water quality and ways to restore and protect local water resources. Presenters from various disciplines discussed how their work is achieving that goal.
